Eating Habits

By Nadine Mano

One of the Ancient Greek Philosophers (by the way, if you know his name, please “comment” below,) said

When you have eaten your meal and have left the table feeling that you did not have enough food, then you have had enough.
When you left the table after the meal feeling that you ate enough, then you’ve overeaten.
When you left the table after a meal feeling that you’ve overeaten, then you ate too much, and have virtually “poisoned” yourself.

Now, let’s have a look at eating habits of slim people and those who carry extra weight.

Habits of those people who stay slim.

There are plenty of studies done about eating habits of people. But if somebody stays naturally slim? How do they achieve it? Is it true, that they can eat in tons and never put on a pound? Yes, there are some people who don’t even make any effort to slim, as they stay slim regardless of what and how they eat. But we won’t talk about them, as they probably naturally have a very fast metabolism.

In general, slim people:
  • They eat small portions. (According to some recent research, a size of your ideal portion should be the one, which you can “hold” in your cupped hands put together).
  • They don’t skip breakfast. ( It is also proven that if you don’t skip breakfast, you tend to eat less during the day).
  • Their suppers are not high in calories.
  • They don’t eat many carbohydrates before going to bed. They may have some yoghurt or fruit instead.
  • In general they are not great eaters. They don’t seem to have great deal of appetite. They may not be “connoisseurs” of sophisticated food, as they tend to eat more plain and natural food. They tend to avoid salad dressings, for example, those fuelled with calories
  • They only eat when they are genuinely hungry, not because of boredom or being upset.
Eating habits of people who carry extra weight:

  • They tend to eat large portions of food and often many courses.
  • They skip breakfast, thinking that by doing this they can loose more calories.
  • They usually eat often during the day, snacking on “junk” food, filled with empty calories.
  • They eat when they are bored or upset or for any other reason, not only when they are genuinely hungry.
  • Usually, as a result of “ a wrong diet” and in most cases, a sedentary way of life, they have slow metabolism.

Maybe this very basic comparison will make you think on which side you veer towards or are embedded in now and will help you to draw your own conclusions.
